Who knows whether Paul Ryan is defeat-able in 2018, but a hard hat-wearing union man just fired one hell of an opening shot in the race for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District.
Randy Bryce, union Ironworker, U.S. Army veteran, cancer survivor comes across as so salt of the earth that you could sprinkle him over French fries. His candidacy announcement has people buzzing. Here’s from GQ’s Jack Moore:
“In a post-Trump world, this kind of outsider voice seems very likely to resonate. I mean how can you not be moved by a phrase like, "Let's trade places. Paul Ryan, you can come work the iron and I'll go to D.C."
Hey may have to wear a suit and tie at some point, but all the photos on his video show him in a hard hat and flannel shirts, hugging his mom (who has MS) and rocking a mustache (his Twitter handle is @IronStache.
The bio on Bryce's campaign site notes that he has been active in Ironworkers Local 8, serving as a political coordinator for the union and as a member of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council Board of Directors.
