At last, our country’s proudest holiday, and one of the most fun during the summer, is right around the corner. Fourth of July parties, barbeques, and every type of get together are being planned nationwide as we speak.
If you’re not organizing one yourself, you’ll surely be invited to one, and no one wants to be that person who comes to a party empty handed. But cooking can be hard and stressful, right?
Not with these easy and quick –to-prepare side dishes and appetizers that require few ingredients. And because you don’t want to bring a dish no one likes to the potluck, here are four crowd-pleasers that will make you the hero.
And speaking of heroes, by choosing ethical products at the right stores, you will be supporting companies who pay a living wage and treat their employees well.
1. Artichoke Dip
When you’re invited to a 4th of July party, you don’t want to upstage the host by bringing in a fancy dish. It does, however, need to be yummy. An artichoke dip is equal parts delicious as it is simple without being basic and boring. You’ll only need a handful of ingredients which you can pick up at Albertsons or Ralphs, including Alpenrose Dairy sour cream, Andy Boy artichokes, Birds Eye spinach, mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, and Diamond Crystal salt. It only takes 15 minutes to prepare and is the perfect starter.
2. Sesame Broccoli Rabe Crostini
Sometimes with friends and loved ones, we want to show off a little. And with these bread bites of deliciousness you’ll do just that without having to put in a whole lot of effort. All it takes is 10 minutes, a handful of ingredients like Boar’s Head goat cheese, Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt, baguette, among others. For the full recipe, check out Andy Boy. It’s a riche option that is also Instagram worthy.
3. Melted Cheese with Chorizo (Queso Fundido)
If you want to get a bit more creative with your appetizer game, we suggest thinking outside of the usual box of starters. I mean, cheese and chorizo? You can’t go wrong with that. The ingredient list is a bit longer, you’ll need Boar’s Head Monterrey jack cheese and mozzarella cheese, Battistoni chorizo, Goya extra virgin olive oil, cream cheese, tomato salsa, cumin, and chopped green onion. You will also have to heat up the skillet at the party, but it will be more than worth it. Put a spoonful on a tortilla for the authentic experience.
4. Deli Tray
When all else fails or you simply don’t have the time, take the easy way out. It’s fine, we won’t judge. Just order a deli tray at your local Albertsons store and pick it up on your way to the party. They’re customizable, affordable, and, most importantly, hassle free.
