It used to be a given that stores would close on Thanksgiving Day - one of the most celebrated holidays in the country. In recent years, however, some stores have decided to put profits over people, requiring that employees work that day. But more and more stores are refusing to open on the holiday and instead are giving their workers a much-need break. Here are the six chains that have formally announced that they will shut their doors this Thanksgiving Day.

1. Gamestop

2. Staples

3. Nordstrom

4. Nieman Marcus

5. Costco

6. Burlington Coat Factory

Awesome! I work for a retail company that ALSO is closed on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day...PLUS we are closed on Sundays. Our hrs. are 8-5 Mon. thru Sat. :)

Anyone that thinks this is anything more than business driven is naive. All the stores realized they were not getting any additional sales. They were simply moving Black Friday earlier and paying employees holiday pay. This was completely a business decision, they are just pitching it as a "we care about the people". No they don't, its all about making the most money with the least costs.

THANK YOU! Now, more than ever, families need this family time. You can bet I will be doing my Christmas/birthday shopping at companies that close on major holidays.
